About Artlab

Artlab is a laboratory that explores and uses new technologies and digital creativity to develop artistic projects, stimulate new forms of expression and promote critical thinking from Latin America to the world. We work with the most relevant artists at the intersection of art, music and technology, always with an inclusive and collaborative spirit.

Our cultural centre is a meeting point for the contemporary art scene and for an audience eager to discover new proposals that go beyond the limits. A 540sq m warehouse located in the Audiovisual District of the City of Buenos Aires, it houses an art gallery/exhibition space, a listening bar, a restaurant, and HiFi room, equipped with a state of the art Altec Lansing A7 sound system, a high resolution – large scale LED screen and advanced lighting technology.

We work actively articulating projects in alliance with British Council, Institut Français, Goethe-Institut, Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Somerset House Studios, Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, BA Cultura, arteBA and the universities UNTREF and UNSAM.

We are part of the network of the international festival of digital creativity MUTEK, one of the largest art and technology events in the world.
In 2023, Artlab was declared of Cultural Interest by the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

An Illusion Of The Future

From the uncertainty that opens a fold between the present and tomorrow, from the transition between the physical and the virtual, from the change from analogue to digital skin, could we speak today of a contemporary sensibility?

When virtual existence imposes itself as a sign of the times, art emerges and rebels against disconnection and generalised alienation, science at the service of inspiration has been the main tool in search of freedom and expression. Technology was used by indispensable people to expand the limits of the imagination. It is this memory that allows us to see artificial intelligence as a technical extension of consciousness and not as a threat.

A technological advance can bring us the key in the search for a different narrative. A narrative that, far from separating, brings together all languages.

Art that embraces mutation has the power to invent new, unknown practices, with the power to inaugurate a corporeal archive of experiences and desires. We are faced with the need to create mutant works that mobilise, excite, connect, shake and electrify.
The artists of this time, against the grain of any dystopian narrative, could be the guardians of a new sensibility, one that includes an illusion of the future.
